January 9th 2022

Although  some minor fireball were detected during the first week of 2022, the first really impressive and big fireball, with a brightness that exceeds that of the full moon, happened at 00h18 of January 9^th.

SMART Project’s detectors operated at Calar Alto (Almería), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), Seville, El Aljarafe, Huelva and La Hita (Toledo), registered this event.

Two of the external cameras of Calar Alto Observatory in Almería also could record this nice object.

December 17th 2021

During last week, we could observe many fireballs above our skies. Most of them are Geminids.

The brightest Geminid, until now, happened on December 14^th above Almería east coast. This fireball was registered with the SMART Project’s detectors operated at Calar Alto (Almería), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), La Hita (Toledo), Seville, Huelva and Aljarafe observatories.

In addition, as usual, some of the external surveillance cameras of Calar Alto Observatory in Almería could follow this event.

December 11th 2021

The same day as previous event (December 7th), but this occasion at 21h31 UT, another spectacular fireball illuminates the skies of  Granada (South Spain)

The phenomena was registered with the SMART Project’s detector located at the observatories of Calar Alto (Almería), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), and Seville.

Two of the external cameras of Calar Alto Observatory in Almería, also registered this event.

December 7th 2021

A new bright fireball flew the skies between provinces of Seville and Cordoba in south Spain. This event took place on last December 7^th at 01h13 UT.

The object was registered with the SMART Project’s detectors operated at Calar Alto (Almería), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), La Hita (Toledo), Seville, Aljarafe, Huelva and Madrid observatories.

This time, two of the external cameras located at Calar Alto Observatory in Almería could also follow this fireball.

December 5th 2021

At 04h08 UT of last December 4th, an impressive fireball crossed the skies from North Africa to south of Ibiza Island.

As the angle of penetration into our atmosphere was very low, the object bounced off the atmosphere. Its final altitude was higher than the initial one converting  it into an Earth Grazer fireball.
