January 24th 2025
During the early morning of January 24th 2025, at 06h20 UT, an impressive fireball crossed the skies of Albacete, Murcia and Alicante in Southeast Spain.
The event was registered with the SMART Project’s detectors operated at Calar Alto (Almería), La Hita (Toledo), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), Otura (Granada), Marçà (Tarragona) and Seville observatories.
In this case this object was also followed by three of the external cameras located at Calar Alto Observatory.
January 11th 2025
After the impressive fireball of January 9th, one day after, another object could be observed in this case above south Spain, between Málaga and Benalmádena.
SMART Project’s detectors registered this event. This time, the firewall was followed with the detectors operated at Calar Alto (Almería), La Hita (Toledo), Huelva, Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), Otura (Granada) and Seville observatories.
And again, two of the external cameras located at Calar Alto Observatory in Almería also recorded this nice fireball.
January 10th 2025
Last night of January 9th 2025, a bright fireball could be observed above Palencia and León provinces in northern Spain.
This event was registered with the SMART Project’s detectors operated at Calar Alto (Almería), Sierra Nevada and La Sagra (Granada), Olocau (Valencia), La Hita (Toledo), Faro de Cullera (Valencia) and Marçà (Tarragona)
Although Palencia and León are 600 km away from Calar Alto Observatory in Almería, two of its external cameras could also follow this object.
October 14th 2024
Last October 10th 2024, a magnificent aurora borealis illuminated skies around all Europe. Even on such southern places as Calar Alto Observatory, Almería (South Spain), the aurora could be observed plenty of red light. May be the most impressive effect were the pillars, an unusual phenomena rarely seen on southern latitudes like Almería.

A fireball with a nice last fulguration could be observed last October 6th at 03h36 UT.
This object was registered with the SMART Project detectors operated at Calar Alto (Almería), La Hita (Toledo), Sierra Nevada (Granada), La Sagra (Granada), Huelva and Seville observatories.
Two of the external cameras located at Calar Alto Observatory in Almería also recorded this event.
