Problem: Power failure of X terminals and associated computer (e.g. o2klinux)

    Diagnostic :
  • X-terminal sessions on rike for autoguider and spectrograph GUIs lost.

    Explanation :
  • If a computer crash has terminated a previously active IDL session with corresponding GUI (pics_ag or pics_gui), any active exposure is not necessarily lost. Since the CCD controllers are operating autonomously, where the GUIs are mererly passive front ends, it is possible to recover from temporary power-down or an X-terminal crash.

    Solution :
  • If necessary after crash, reboot computer/X-Terminal. Login to o2k computer, connect to rike, and open IDL sessions for AG and SPEC Cameras.
  • AG Camera:
    If autoguider is still active, go to the yellow ag CCD Controller message window, type Ctrl-C to terminate the current mode of operation. Restart CCD controller by entering:
    a_start_ace
  • SPEC Camera:
    If currently exposure active, wait until shutter is closed and readout has terminated (observe "traffic lights" in CCD controller status window). Type:

    For Mosaic Camera KAM05 type:
